Rev. Girts Grietins

Pastor Girts Grietins was born in Latvia and grew up in Cesis, where as a young Christian he joined Cesis’ St. John's church. Later followed years of study in the Faculty of Theology (University of Latvia) and the Luther Academy. From 1997 – 2002 he started to serve in The Evangelical Lutheran Church of Latvia as an evangelist in Rubene. In 2002 he was ordained as a pastor and served in the Jaunjelgava, Daudzeva, Sece and Selpils congregations. In 2017 together with his wife Ilze and three children he moved to Toronto and began to serve at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Latvian Church of Toronto.

Pastor Girts is interested in Christian apologetics - the clarification and defence of faith against the challenges of our times. He has also been involved in translating theological books from English to Latvian. One of his inspirations in theology comes from the English author, scholar and apologist C. S. Lewis. Pastor Girts has translated Lewis’ popular books "Mere Christianity" and "The Great Divorce," as well as the American apologist’s and pastor’s Timothy Keller's books “Reason for God" and "Counterfeit Gods". These authors helped him to understand and experience the Christian faith.

Pastor’s mottos: Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it will be opened. /Jesus/

“I believe in Christianity as I believe that the sun has risen: not only because I see it, but because by it I see everything else./C. S. Lewis/
